Hi, I'm Matt. AKA Chainsaw Buddy
I started this site after becoming obsessed with all things chainsaws.
Upon moving to an off-grid homestead in the mountains of Colorado, I I suddenly needed to saw, chop, and split a whole lotta firewood.
We have a minimal battery setup and use wood to heat our home.
I wasn’t very impressed with the information I could find online. So after years using a chainsaw and cutting cord after cord of firewood, I decided to create the website about chainsaws that I wished existed.
When you read a chainsaw review, guide, or info post on ChainsawBuddy.com you can rest assured knowing it’s actually written by someone who uses a chainsaw on the regular!
I actually test and use what I recommend. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of fake sites, written by someone who has never actually seen a chainsaw.
When your family’s warmth and survival depends on a chainsaw, it’s important that the info out there is actually written by an expert.
I hope you enjoy this deep dive into chainsaws as much as I do. Drop me a line at yourchainsawbuddy [at] gmail [dot] com with any questions or just to say. It’s always great to connect with other chainsaw fans.
Want learn more about Chainsaw Buddy?
My wife, Mallory, and I sold our nice house in the city, to live out here in the wilds. We wanted to raise our kids in a place where they could roam free. In addition to three kids under 4-years-old, we have pigs, chickens, and Colorado Mountain Dogs.
Our house is a hunting cabin that we are slowly turning into a family home. It takes a lot of work to raise animals, grow a garden, and cut enough wood to keep us warm all winter long, but we wouldn't trade it for anything.

Our Process
Chainsaw Buddy covers everything to do with chainsaws including individual product reviews, buying guides, and informational posts.
I want this to be a place that helps newbies start using a chainsaw, and experienced chainsawers take things to the next level.
Whether you need a mini chainsaw to cut some branches, an electric chainsaw for around the house, or a gas-powered workhorse to cut firewood, there is something for you here. I spend a lot of time testing and take pride in giving honest reviews. And I'm always aiming to cover a variety of price points. I know how it is to have a limited budget, but still need something that works reliably.
Gear and Revenue
Many of the products you see on Chainsaw Buddy have been purchased from local retailers and dealers. Additionally, I may receive some products from manufacturers to review.
No matter how the gear is procured, I always maintain complete editorial independence and never receive any financial compensation for reviews. Everything here is honest, tested, and true.
The revenue here is generated when you make a purchase through the links or buttons in our articles. I really appreciate when you do this—the price is the same to you, but this allows me to continue testing and reviewing as much gear as possible. And if you return a product, I make nothing. If you end up being disappointed with our recommendations and don’t come back to the site, we lose our readership. That’s why I always set a very high standard for our work, constantly striving to provide the best, most honest, and most helpful information around.
Born from a True Passion
This site exists because I truly love and use my chainsaw every week.
My friends and wife were tired of hearing about chainsaws all the time, so I started writing here. I hope you find it as useful to read as I find it fun to write. I'm just a regular guy trying to build a homestead life and learn new skills along the way.
Thanks for being here and letting me be your Chainsaw Buddy.
